We are currently looking a Weather Observer for one of our opportunities in the Churchill, Manitoba.
Environment Canada (EC) Upper Air Weather Observers are required to observe record, encode and transmit various observations, at specified times, as required to comply with the instructions contained in publications provided by EC and as detailed during training.
The Observer is responsible for the Aerological Observing Program by performing aerological observations throughout the year. The aerological observations occur twice daily, seven days per week - including all holidays - once in the morning and once in the afternoon. In addition, the Observer may be required to perform various other functions, including but not limited to: Snow Surveys and Ozone Flights, as well as various administrative functions, requiring a basic knowledge of computers and various applications such as Microsoft Office.
- Observes and records weather conditions for use in forecasting: Periodically observes general weather, sky and visibility conditions, and reads weather instruments including thermometers, barometers, and hygrometers to ascertain elements, such as temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, wind velocity, and precipitation.
- May collect upper-air data on temperature, humidity, and winds, using weather balloon and winds, using weather balloon and radiosonde equipment.
- Grade 12 Education
- Eligible for security clearance
- Willing to participate in two week training course in Stony Mountain Alberta
